Job Summary

The Retail Cashier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service by efficiently and accurately processing cash, credit, debit, and other transactions at the register.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Accurately and efficiently process cash, credit, debit, gift cards, and other payment transactions at the register, adhering to the store's payment processing procedures.
  2. Greet customers in a friendly and welcoming manner, assist with any questions or concerns, and provide information on current promotions and discounts.
  3. Ensure that all transactions are handled with precision to minimize errors and discrepancies in cash handling.
  4. Properly bag or package purchased items to prevent damage.
  5. Handle returns and exchanges according to store policies, provide refunds, and resolve customer issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  6. Scan and verify product prices, apply discounts or promotions accurately, and address any pricing discrepancies.
  7. Identify opportunities to upsell or cross-sell products, enhancing the overall shopping experience and maximizing sales.
  8. Maintain an organized and clean cashier area, ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
  9. Perform end-of-day reconciliation by balancing the cash register, accounting for all transactions, and preparing it for the next shift.
  10. Adhere to store policies, procedures, and regulations, particularly regarding age-restricted product sales.
  11. Maintain vigilance to prevent theft or shoplifting, report any suspicious activity, and cooperate with store security as necessary.
  12. Collaborate with other team members to maintain a tidy sales floor, restock merchandise, and effectively address customer needs as needed.
  13. Keep appropriate records relating to the discharge of his/her responsibilities.
  14. Executes any other duty assigned by management.

Organizational Relationships

This position reports to the Store Supervisor and indirectly to the Store Manager. He/she interfaces regularly with dispensary, sales, and marketing staff.

Requirements - Education and Experience

He/she must have a high school diploma or general education certificate and preferably one year’s work experience. Basic understanding of the retail industry is desirable. He/she must be a self-motivated team player, have a professional demeanor with reasonable communication skills.

Physical and Emotional Demands

He/she must have the physical ability and emotional intelligence to perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the job. This is a demanding position that requires a flexible schedule and dealing with difficult personalities and conflicts while maintaining a consistently professional and calm demeanor.
